Le Grand Palais is another jewel of French architecture built in only three years for the Universal Fair of 1900, along with the Petit Palais and Alexandre III in what is called the Republic axe.

The Grand Palais hosts 3 main exhibition Halls, the Grande Nef, below the gigantic glass roof which is the main hall, The National Gallery which includes a smaller hall, and the Palais de la Découverte which became a permanent museum for sciences in 1937, following a very successful exhibition on Sciences (physics, mathematics,...).

The Grande Nef and the National Gallery are openned only when there are exhibitions, which are usually of excellent level. The building by itself is worth a visit, whatever the exhibition poroposed. Usually, there are huge queues before the entrance so it is highly recommended to buy the tickets online on the Grand Palais Website.

The most amazing part of the Grand Palais is its huge glass roof and dome, which uses as much iron as for the building of the Eiffer Tower.

For more information, you can check out the Grand Palais website and Wikipedia page.

At the corner of the building overlooking the Seine river toward Alexandre III bridge, you will find the Minipalais, a nice and fancy french restaurant, and if you want a quick snack or just a coffee, you can have in the cafeteria in the gardens of the Petit Palais, just from the other side of the Avenue Winston Churchill..
