Musée Carnavalet is much less known than the other famous parisian Museums such the Louvre, Musée d'Orsay or Georges Pompidou, although it is a major museum in Paris;

It is the oldest Municipal museum in the French capital, and as all the museums owned by the city like the Petit Palais, it is free of charge. The Louvre and the other museums are owned by the French state and are not free of charge except the first sundays of each month and a few other days.

Located in the Marais Neighborhood, one of the oldest and most charming ones in Paris. It occupies to of the beautiful palaces of the Neighborhood, Carnavalet and hôtel Le Peletier de Saint-Fargeau linked with a charling gallery

What I like most in Carnavalet is that it gives you a sense on how the city looked like at different stages of its history. I particularly like the small scale reproductions of the city, made hundred years ago and showing how the city looked lilke.

Of course, the museum is not only a history museum, but holds also several hundred thousands of art works (paintings, sculptures, objects,...), as well as beautiful furniture and decors.

For more information, don't hesitate to visit the Museum's website and teh Wikipedia Page
