mWith the Alcazar and the Roman Aqueduct, the Santa Iglesia Catedral de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción y de San Frutos de Segovia (its full name for the believers), is one of the three most important monuments of the city, and definitly a must when visiting this World Heritage city.

Built at the highest point of the town, construction of the cathedral of Segovia began in the year 1525, during the reign of Carlos V. It is in the late Gothic style and was built after the fire in the old Romanesque cathedral in the year 1520. It is one of the last important buildings built with Gothic Architectures in Spain and Europe, since the Renaissance style was the one dominating at this period. It replaced the older Roman style Cathedral which used to be adjacent to the Alcazar and part of its defenses, and which was burnt during a uprising of the population.

Its impressive measurements and elegance gave it the label of The Mother of all Cathedrals, with a 105 m length by 50 m width and stands 33 m high at the main nave and its tower culminating at 90 meters (equivalent to a 30 stories building!).
