Hotel-Restaurant La Colombe d'Or

La Colombe d'Or is an institution very famous in the Region, but also beyond French borders now. When visiting Saint Paul de Vence, you cannot miss it since it is just next to the town's main gate, outside of the walls.

Originally a very humble Hostel with 3 rooms and a very simple local cuisine, the Colombe D'or became an Artist nest between WW1 and WW2, and continued but at a much lower pace.

Chagall, Picasso, Miro, Matisse, Léger, Calder, Braque and many others had there habits there, and left a few paintings and other artworks to the owners. You can admire these works only if you have booked a table or a room in the Hotel, which is logical otherwise it would destroy the atmosphere of the place.

As many French stars where also friends of the Roux family and spent a lot of time there such as Yves Montand, Simone Signoret, Lino Ventura, Serge Reggiani, la Colombe d'Or became a tourist attraction by itself, and prices followed.

You need to count easilly 80 EUR per person for a 3 course menu and some wine, for good food, yet not exceptional.
The Carré d'Agneau and Assiette d'Hors d'oeuvre are among the restaurant's specialties.

The decoration is a mix of old rustic furniture, with art works here and there.

La Colombe d'Or is also a Hotel with 13 rooms and 12 suites, with prices going from 250 to 430 EUR depending on the periods. The Hotel is closed from October to Christmas;

If you like places with a strong history and you are willong to pay for it, you'll love this place; If you are looking for more authentic experiences away from the highly touristic paths, better go to the nearby Tilleul (inside the city walls).
