Imagine the following situation, you are in Amsterdam, want to have a coffee or something to eat (something Dutch!). In this case Blue Amsterdam can be your best bet. This place is known by most Amsterdammers as the spot wherefrom you can admire the spectacular Dutch capital.
When I visited Amsterdam with some friends we wanted to see the city from every possible angle, so we asked some Dutch if they could recommend a place and Blue Amsterdam was the first thing they've recommended, so Blue Amsterdam it was.
This restaurant is situated on the Kalverstraat, one of the best shopping streets of Amsterdam. Finding the place is a little bit tricky if you don`t know your way around, because there aren't any signs showing where it is, so here's how you will find it:on the Kalverstraat you will see a big shopping mall (the Kalvertoren shopping center) right next to the Hema store, you go in, take the lift to the last floor and there you are! Very easy!
From personal experience I can tell you that once you're there you'll be more preoccupied of taking pictures, than ordering food. However, after having enough pictures, you'll get to take a look at the menu as well. You will find many typical Dutch dishes, but also many types of coffee (Dutch are crazy for coffee). For something typical for the Dutch cuisine I recomment the bitterballen, they are quite interesting.
Blue Amsterdam has two floors, unfortunately one floor was closed the day I visited, but still tourists could take the stairs and go up for the view. From there you can see all the important buildings, especially the Rijksmuseum (but not the Iamsterdam sign).
All in all, I recommend this place for its good service, tasty food, wonderful atmosphere and most importantly the spectacular view.Less
