If you are in Sibiu searching for touristic attractions, the Brukenthal Palace is a good place to start. It is housed in the palace of Samuel von Brukenthal, a Habsburg governor from Transylvania being one of the six locations of the Brukenthal National Museum, which sums up six museums, all situated in different locations in Sibiu.

This Palace is perhaps the most important part of the museum. It is located on the Big Square, in the center of the town and has something to offer for all tastes and interests. The Art Galleries of this place are wonderful and absolutely worth visiting if you ask me. They contain the works of different artists from the 15th to the 18th century, artists of the European Schools of painting (Flemish, Dutch, French, Spanish, Austrian etc.) Beside the paintings you can find here a collection of books, engravings, minerals or even numismatics (coins, tokens and paper money).

Since you are at the art galleries I strongly recommend to visit the Brukenthal library. You won't have to go far as it is located right inside the Brukenthal Palace, not far from the Art Galleries. As I've understood it has around 3000 manuscripts, foreign books which are rare, Romanian language books, magazines etc. It is definitely worth a visit!
