Cano Cristales - the liquid rainbow from Colombia

The Caño Cristales river from Columbia is considered the most beautiful river in the world.
Also called "the liquid rainbow" the spectacular water course is transformed into a colorful kaleidoscope due to some freshwater aquatic plants, macarenia clavigera.

In the most of the the year, the river is no more special compared to other flowing water, but in the short period between the rainy and dry season (from July to November), it becomes the scene of a festival of natural colors.

Caño Cristales river is also known under the name of - "The River of five colors", "The rainbow river" or "The river that leads to Paradise" .

For a while, the area where the spectacular colors can be seen very well, was closed to tourists for many years. This occurred because of guerrillas from the area, but also because of the negative impact that the uncontrolled tourism might have on the landscape.

Caño Cristales river is located in an area with difficult access, the Macarena Serrania, in the north of Colombia. The river is 100 kilometers long and 20 meters wide.
