If you decide to spend your vacation in Bulgaria, I warmly recommend you to visit the nature reserve, Cape Kaliakra.

On the way to the Bulgarian coast, you must stop, at least for an hour or two at Cape Kaliakra, to admire the medieval ruins - a very valuable natural reserve and, especially, a unique landscape. Altogether this wonderful landscape, is due to the reddish rocks, which are swallowed by the unreal blue of the sea.

This area in northern Bulgaria, Cape Kaliakra, is a strip of land falling into the Black Sea along of 2 km and has an altitude of nearly 70 meters.

Cape Kaliakra is a valuable natural reserve. It is an the area where you can see rare species from fishes and birds. You can visit the ruins of the fortress Kaliakra, dating from the Dacian times which was conquered and destroyed by the Turks in the XVth century. There is a legend according to which 40 virgins threw themselves off the cliffs into the sea against falling prey to the Turks.

To visit these beautiful places you have to pay a modest fee entry, parking is quite large, but in summer is always full. Attention!!!....here the wind and the sun are very strong, so it would be better to protect from the hot rays.

Cape Kaliakra worth a visit, especially for the magnificent landscape. The blue of the Black Sea, its waves that hit with force the reddish cliffs, the beautiful stretch of the sea in any part you look, the feeling of isolation, of remoteness and the ruins form the perfect picture.
