Château Cheverny

Visiting the Loire Valley is not at all an easy task, you will have to plan smartly which castle you want to visit according to your time and budget. Of course first you must visit the most important castles like Chambord, Chenonceau without which you can`t leave France, but that doesn`t mean that you leave out the smaller ones like Cheverny. You may have guessed that Château de Cheverny is located in Cheverny in the Loire-et-Cher department.

The castle itself has neither the architecture of Château Chambord nor the beauty and charm of Chenonceau, but as you enter you will observe how remarkably well-preserved the furniture and the decoration is on the inside.

On the first floor you can see the French way of living of the period, as you walk by the birth chamber, the nursery and the dining room and it is really spectacular because you have the feeling that you've gone back in time.

After visiting the interior of the building you can go and start with the park that surrounds the castle. The English style park consists of giant redwoods, cedars and lime trees, which were all planted in the 18th century.

Beside the park you should also see the Kitchen Garden, which offers an interesting mixture of flowers an vegetables, that's why it changes its color and fragrance according to the season. Of course that the most beautiful it is in the summer, but in spring and autumn you will have a great time as well.

After visiting all this if you still have the strength to walk through another garden I recommend the Apprentices` Garden. This formal French garden will give you a splendid view of the park.

One interesting and unusual aspect at Cheverny is the fact that you can see the hunting dogs as well. There are more than hundred hunting dogs who live at Cheverny and whom you can visit all day long.

The price of a ticket is 9 € for adults, 6 € for people under 26 and of course there are tickets for groups of adults if you happen to be with a group. The ticket counter is open every day from Monday to Friday until 17:00 or 18:45 pm.

All in all if you choose to visit Cheverny you will surely have a wonderful day there and I recommend you to enjoy every part of it!
