Delft

Delft is situated right at the South of the Hague. Among students it is mainly known for its University of Technology. It is not as crowded as Amsterdam, Utrecht or The Hague, being the sort of town that you need after a day in Amsterdam or Utrecht. This is because they are the biggest and most popular Dutch cities where lots of tourists show up during summer season.
Although visiting the big cities can be quite an experience you shouldn`t ignore the little ones like Delft.
When I first planned my journey to the Netherlands I`ve decided to visit Amsterdam, the Hague, Utrecht and Rotterdam and maybe some of their surroundings. Then I`ve heard some friends telling me how wonderful Delft is and how relaxing it can be to spend a day there after all the buzz of the big cities so I`ve decided to give it a try.
Iit was the best choice I could make! I fell in love with all the little streets, the canals and the Dutch way of living. Here I could relax, lose track of time, take beautiful pictures, shop for souvenirs and eat typical Dutch dishes.

Delft is not the type of city where you have many sights to see, so it won`t be necessary to do any planning. You will surely have time for the most important sights as they are not that many. Some of these are the Old and the New Church (Oude en Nieuwe Kerk), the city hall (which you surely can`t miss) and the Eastern Gate ( this is the only remaining gate of the old city walls).

Keep in mind that the most beautiful in Delft are not the monuments, but the streets and the feeling you have when you just simply walk in those surroundings. Don`t waste your time chasing after monuments and forgetting to apreciate the fact that you are in a beautiful town. On the other hand, if you are the type of person who goes on a vacation in order to find out more about a place, to visit museums, cathedrals etc. you might want to visit Amsterdam, Delft is surely not for you!Less
