One of the most beautiful villages in Europe – Hallstatt, is a village in the Salzkammergut, a region in Austria. Hallstatt - the "pearl of Austria", is a beautiful alpine village located between the mountains and Lake Hallstatt. Considered to be the oldest still-inhabited villages of Europe, the village it's about an hour outside of Salzburg.

Here you can visit very interesting places like salt caves (more than 250 years old). Salt mines, "Salzwelten" or "Salt Worlds", is the top attraction in Hallstatt.

If you love history, I will recommend you to visit Cultural Heritage Museum – place where you will discover 7000 years of Hallstatt history. This museum will show you the artifacts from the bronze age and iron age graves. If you want to see more recent findings, you can also visit the Folk Museum (Heimatmusem).

I can also recommend you a tour on the Lake of Hallstatt, by boat – so will you enjoy a relaxing tour in the middle of the beautiful nature.

Another way to explore this place is by feet. If you love hiking, you will find there a hiking map encompassing every hiking trail throughout the Salzkammergut area. Take a nature walk through the Echerntal trail and discover landscapes that have attracted mountain climbers, explorers, romantic poets, and painters.

For those who want to visit Hallstatt during May-October period, i need to inform you that cars are not allowed.

My advice if you want to spend your vacation here: you must search for a hotel and make a reservation months ahead especially if you wish to visit the town during the "off seasons", when only a few shops and restaurants are opened.
