Harghita county

If there is a county I love in Romania that is Harghita. The reason? Its richness of natural landscapes. Here are my reasons to visit Harghita county.

Firstly, the very important Cheile Bicazului-Hăşmaş is located in this county. Situated in the Eastern part of Transylvania this depression is surrounded by the Eastern Carpathians therefore having colourful landscapes in every season. The springs of two important rivers, the Olt and the Mureş can be found in the Cheile Bicazului-Hăşmaş.


Secondly Harghita county is very well-known for its mineral springs, which can be found in a great number in this region. We can even say that this is the land of baths and springs. It has a number of internationally recognized resorts like Tuşnad, Borsec or Praid and all of them are a good place for you to spend those warm days of summer.

Thirdly, Harghita county has something to offer for every season of the year. I've already mentioned summer, but what about winter? Well, it turns out that the winter sport lovers are lucky because many places from Harghita county are ideal for winter sports. If you prefer luxury you can make a reservation at a hotel, but I would recommend to search for a mountain cottage and you will be amazed how wonderful the atmosphere can be there! In the big cities you can go for a hotel, but in this natural landscape I think that the cottage fits best!

Moreover, it is the land where traditions are still kept, for example the folk culture of the county goes back hundreds of years and the ancient traditions are kept from generation to generation. There are also many institutions which aim to preserve all these traditions. By traditions I mean arts like spinning, wood carving, pottery. In Harghita county you will fall back in time and leave our developed and technology oriented world behind.Less
