If you love heights and want to be a little more closer to the sky and above the mountains then you must visit the Heroes Cross in Romania. It is known as well as the Cross of Caraiman. This monument is situated on the Caraiman Peak in the Bucegi Mountains right on the slope of the Seacă Valley in the Southern Carpathians. It was built at an altitude of 2,292 m in the memory of the railway heroes who died during World War I fighting against the armies of the Central Powers. Its unique character is also given by the fact that it was introduced in the World Guinness Records as the tallest cross on a mountain.

The Heroes Cross is made of metal, the necessary materials for this cross were transported by train to Buşteni and from there to the top of the Caraiman Peak. At night it offers a spectacular view as it is illuminated and can be seen from many miles away, even from the Prahova Valley.

The easiest way to get to the Cross is by taking the cable car from Buşteni and passing through Jepilor Valley. Going by foot is recommended only for professionnals or with a guide otherwise it is very dangerous, especially if you are not used to climbing mountains. Thus, the best way is by cable car, but I have to admit that if you go in the weekend you will have to be prepared to wait long hours, because it can get really crowded. With a little patience you will reach the cross and have part of a stunning view through the Jepilor Valley. The mountain lovers will certainly love it! There are evergreen mountains as far as you can see.

All in all, I hope you visit this wonderful place or at least put it on your bucket list, because it is definitely worth seeing.
