The museum owes its collections from the Habsburg family, which gave a particular importance of art, by collecting sculpture, painting, decorative arts, weapons and armor, musical instruments, Roman, Egyptian, Greek and Oriental antiquities. In this museum you will find numerous masterpieces, from fertility statue "Venus of Willendorf", to the works of Tiziano, Mantegna and Bruegel the Elder.

The History Museum of Art Vienna (German: Kunsthistorisches Museum) from Vienna, in Austria, is an art museum considered one of the first museums of ancient art in the world.

The Kunsthistorisches Museum, opened its doors on October 17, 1891 by the Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria-Hungary. In contrast to many other national museums (Louvre, Hermitage Museum, etc.) who were former palaces the building's function that hosts was fixed during the construction.

The Kunsthistorisches Museum was opened at the same time as the Naturhistorisches Museum. The two museums have identical exteriors and face each other across Maria-Theresien-Platz. Both buildings were built between 1872 and 1891.

The most notables collections of the museum are those of the Habsburgs. In large part those collections include: the portrait and the armour collections of Ferdinand of Tirol, the collections of Emperor Rudolph II, and the collection of paintings of Archduke Leopold Wilhelm.
