Madurodam

No visit to the Netherlands is complete without visiting Madurodam as it offers a unique experience. This is a miniature park and a well-known tourist attraction in the Scheveningen situated in the district of The Hague. Practically, all the country is re-created at Madurodam at a scale of 1:25, so it contains all the important buildings, streets, castles, cafés, canals etc.

This "miniature Netherlands" was named after George Maduro, a Jewish law student who died in a concentration camp. His parents donated the necessary funds for the Madurodam project. And the scope of the project wasn't just to create a tiny Netherlands, but to create it by highlighting all the important aspects of the Dutch culture as well. You will be amazed by all those miniature gardens with real flowers and plants.

When first walking into Madurodam you will have the feeling that you are in a story where all is small and tiny around you. You will see little canals, little windmills, little bicycles resting along the canals even little people on the streets of Madurodam. And since the Dutch are tall, nowhere else in the Netherlands will you feel as tall as in Madurodam.

I have to admit that at first it is a strange feeling to be among all those miniature buildings, but by the end of your journey you'll get so used to it that it will feel strange when you leave it and are back in the normal world. And the best thing is that you don't have to worry if you've missed out something of the Netherlands, you will find it all here, albeit on a scale of 1:25.
