Mocăniţa

If you want to have a unique train ride along the Văser Valley, where you could admire nature I recommend you to take a ride with the Mocăniţa, an old steam train which is used nowadays only for touristic purposes. I think that in this world where we travel within seconds from one place to another a piece of old is not only welcomed, but needed. You will get my point once you are there, traveling slowly through a forest and enjoying every second of the ride. you will feel like you`ve gone back in time.

This train that rides along the River Văser is the only means of transport to the heart of Maramureş Mountains. The Văser Valley Railway was built in 1932 and is still working today, but it is used to transport wood from the forest to the wood processing factories, which are situated in Vişeu de Sus.

You can't go with this train in the winter, the tourist season begins in spring and ends in late autumn. The train departs every morning at 9 from ViÅŸeu de Sus and arrives back at around 3 pm. By taking this train ride you will discover the beautiful nature of the valley. After a 2 hours ride there is a halting place where you can have a picnic as well.

I loved this ride and I will surely return, when I have the occasion. I totally recommend it to all the adventurers, travelers and nature-lovers.Less
