Sâmbăta de Sus

Although Brasov itself is a beautiful town, once you get there I would recommend visiting as much of its surroundings as you can. The best way to this is by car, as there are hardly any trains with which you could get off the beaten track. One place that left me without words was Sâmbăta de Sus.

Situated in the Făgăraş depression it is surrounded by evergreen mountains. As soon as you get there you will feel the influence of this place on you. Perhaps because of the tranquility of the place or the breathtaking view you will feel totally relaxed and forget about the problems that maybe were troubling you before you got to Sâmbăta de Sus. And let's be honest we all need such a place from time to time.

Since you are in Sâmbăta de Sus you should visit the Brâncoveanu Monastery. This monastery, famous as the place of spiritual recovery and comfort, is open to visitors. Even the library, the museum and the ecumenical center Academia Sâmbăta can be visited, but I would suggest going during the week if possible, as it can get really crowded in the weekend. As soon as you visit the Brâncoveanu Monastery you will realize that it is one of those places which have a special touch and I think you don't need to be an orthodox to feel this touch, only to open yourself for the experience.

The easiest way to reach the monastery is by car. You will have to go through Sâmbăta de Sus commune on the county road. There are just about 15 km to go, so don't hesitate to visit this astonishing place! Less
