Segovia is a beautiful medieval and fortified town located 90 Kms North West of Madrid; Its amazing Aqueduct, Cathedral and Alcazar, as well as the old medival part of the town made it a UNESCO World Heritage site.
When visiting Madrid for a few days, you must take two or three days to visit Toledo and Segovia, two amazingly rich towns in terms of Architecture, history and Art.
Segovia lies on high ground between the Eresma and Clamores Rivers and forms this magnificent landscape that presides over this part of Castile. It constitutes an excellent starting point to tour the province and visit to the La Granja Palace, as well as the Gorges of the Duratón River Nature Reserve, among other attractions.
Of course, when in town, you should taste the traditional dish: roast suckling pig. Meson Jose Maria is one of the most famous addresses for this.
Going there from Madrid
You can go to Segovia by direct train connection from Madrid Chamartin station by high speed train (AVE) with just 30-35 minutes. The new AVE station is about 4 km outside of the city, and you can either join the city by Taxi (count around 7 EUR) or by bus (#11) that takes you into the old center right at the aqueduct (1 EUR). The bus runs about every 15 minutes (less frequent when there are not train arrivals/departures) and the trip takes 20 minutes.
By car, it will take you around one hour by highway A6.Less
