I don't know about you, but I love huge green spaces. Of course that if you go to the capital city of a country first you visit the monuments and get lost in the city and only after you've walked your feet off you begin to search for a place to rest. You can go for a coffee or hang around in a restaurant, but why would you waste any time if it's good weather outside. Why not get a coffee to go and rest in a park?

Well, Herăstrău Park is for those who would go with the latter option, that is to say go to a park.
The biggest and most famous park of Bucharest is situated in the Northern part of the city. It is divided into two zones. The one which is left undisturbed is called rustic or natural zone, whereas the more active one is used for recreational activities. The park is huge and comprises some buildings, which you can visit.

I'd say that the Dimitrie Gusti National Village Museum is a place that should be visited. By visiting it you would receive some insight into the traditional Romanian village life. This village museum showcases different Romanian houses from different periods resembling the ASTRA museum from Sibiu. If you like old things you should really go and visit this museum.

My favorite place to hang around in this park is right around the lake. You can rent some small boats, they are allowed on the lake. This park was once full of marshes, a fact which might seem impossible if you look at it now.

Finally, I would give a piece of advice: no matter how big the park is do not skip the Japanese garden. You would be missing the most wonderful part of the park (especially in spring)!
