Sibiu, the town situated in the heart of Transylvania is an idyllic place to visit, especially during the International Theater Festival. This Saxon town was designated European Capital of Culture in the year 2007 and in present it is one of the most important cultural centers in Romania.
The International Theater Festival is a well-known art festival in Romania, which takes place annually in this wonderful town. This festival means ten days of performances and artistic creativity as it brings participants from over 70 countries to Sibiu and caters thousands of spectators.
This year the festival will start on the 7th of June and it will last until the 16th of June. So, make place in your schedule, because there will be a lot of cultural events taking place during this week. There will be dance, theater and street performances as well as book fairs, workshops and exhibitions like photo- and costume exhibitions. However, for the exhibitions, workshops and street performances you don't have to purchase a ticket, they are free, but for the theater performances you will need to buy tickets and I would recommend getting them in time, either online or at the venue of the event, otherwise you will risk remaining without a place.
My personal favorites are the street performances. To these performances will be participating artists from Belgium, The Netherlands, France, Austria, Russia, Spain etc. And if you are lucky enough and it's sunny outside you can enjoy one of the best ice cream along with the performances.Less
