Bologa - a place full of history where I spent my childhood. A few hundred meters from my grandparents house and at 10 steps away from the field where my grandmother cultivate potatoes, lies one of the most beautiful sights of the area: The Roman camp Resculum.

Built around 106, The Roman camp Resculum served as a garrison of the cohort II "Hispanorum" whose mission was probably to defend the borders of the Roman Empire.

As the Romans sought to strengthen the borders, in the second century were brought settlers from Greece, it is believed from the Patras and soldiers and cavalry from Britain, "Cohors I Ulpia Britonum" fact attested from the tiles and bricks discovered, bearing the stamp with abbreviations of these troops.

The Roman camp from Bologa is one of the most important on the northwest border of the Roman province of Dacia.

The ruins of the camp are visible today, even if the area is used more as an agricultural area. The wave of land that surrounded the camp is easily to be identified with the naked eye and in nowadays, in some places, the camp is reaching out a height of 3-4 m;

Are visible also the moats around the camp and access gates in the camp. The camp stretched over an area of 3 ha and has known three main phases of construction and several sub-phases. In a first phase it was built a small camp, quadrangular with earthen rampart enclosure; then its dimensions were increased, but was still surrounded by an earthen rampart. Ultimately the camp was surrounded by a stone wall, a moat and an earthen rampart.

After some excavations were identified several elements of the fortification of the camp: walls, moats and earth walls, the gates located on each side (fortified with towers), the two main roads, the headquarters building, the home commander, warehouses for supplies barrack of soldiers and stables of the horses, etc.

A wonderful place, full of history waiting to be discovered. Do not forget your camera !
