Xochimilco

If you have finished visiting the beautiful city of Mexico City and you want to retreat for relaxation, I recomand you to visit Xochimilco park. With a highly developed network of canals, that belongs to the most popular attractions of the city, which can be viewed, Xochimilco was declared on November 11, 1987 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The name of this beautiful Park, "Xochimilco", comes from Nahuatl and means "flower field." This referred to the many flowers and other crops that were grown here since the pre-Hispanic period.

This is a unique place of Mexican culture, where you will be immersed in the music, gastronomy and the joy of living of Mexico! The channels are located on the old site of the floating gardens of Tenochtitlan, through which the Aztec emperors always had fresh vegetables and fruit to their tables. Xochimilco´s Floating Gardens contains a large variety of medicinal and herbal plants as well as fruit trees and flowers.

The most attractive point is represented by the trajinera or another large wooden boat adorned with flowers and paintings. A tour with trajinera takes 2 or 3 hours. What i loved the most is the fact that you can negotiate the price. You can't embark if you don't have something to drink: Corona, rum or Margarita. It'a a tradition!!! But my advice is: before arriving at Xochimilco, buy something to drink! Why? Because the prices are rising much there.

Concerning the food, let yourself be tempted by the little restaurant boats that offers you all the Mexican dishes that you desire to taste directly into your boat.

What is funny is that throughout your journey you will be approached by various traders: corn sellers, beverages, hats, but also musicians, restaurants and photographers.

For me it was a wonderful experience! I would love to repeat it !

My last advice is : if you want the full experience you should take the full trip (4hours long), visit the dolls island and taste the Mexican food with your friends. Less
