Paris walking tour: Latin Quarter

A- start or finish the tour with a coffee in Le Flore or Les 2 magots, 2 of the most famous Cafés in Paris. As they are hyper famous, prices are pretty high. You'll find on Place Saint Germain the famous church around which the neighborhood was initially built and one of the oldest in Paris.

B- walk towards place saint Sulpice who became very famous because of the Da Vinci Code, and walk in rue des cannettes, rue guisarde and rue princesse, very charming streets full of bars and restaurants. You can eat there or have a drink.

C- on the way to rue de Bucy and in the beginning of rue guisarde, you have a small but nice shopping mall who replaced the old neighborhood market.

D- Walk down Rue de Buci, until you reach rue Saint Andre des arts and the Passage du commerce. Visit the Passage du commerce until you reach place de l'Odéon. It's a beautiful and very old inner street, where you will find the back of the Procope, the oldest restaurant in Paris, and 2 other very nice places, la Jacobine and Un Dimanche à Paris.

E- walk back towards rue Saint André des arts until you reach Place Saint Michel, and enjoy a beautiful view on Notre Dame de Paris. The visit of Notre Dame and la Sainte Chappelle can be done either here or when visiting the Marais in another recommendation in Friends Choices.

F- walk through rue de la Harpe and the beautiful old streets nearby which give you a sense of the middle-age Paris, and go towards Boulevard Saint Germain

G- visit Cluny museum and walk around the Sorbonne university, the oldest university in France and one of the oldest in the world, founded in the 12th century.

H- walk up the hill Sainte Genevieve and admire the Panthéon and Sainte Genevieve church in the back of the Panthéon. The Panthéon holds the remains of the most famous French citizens, only civilians, like Victor Hugo, Pasteur, Pierre et Marie Curie,... It is considered to be the highest distinction for a French citizen to be burried in the Pantheon. Saint Genevieve is the Saint of Paris, and it is believed that Clovis, the first King of France, was burried there.

I- walk down the rue Soufflot towards the Luxembourg gardens, where you can have a walk to admire one of the most beautiful gardens in Paris. You also have some nice activities for kids like Poney riding around the gardens, as well as art exhibitions for adults.

J- walk down towards the Odéon theater, and enjoy the beautiful façade giving on rue de l'odéon, which you can walk down towards place de l'odéon, one of the most emblematic spots of Paris, just below Danton statue.Less
