The Christmas market from Nuremberg is one of the oldest in Germany. The first edition of the event was held in the Market Square of the medieval town, it has been held since the sixteenth century.

It was first mentioned in writing in 1628. The inscription discovered at the bottom of a box from spruce decorated with flowers, said: "For Susanna Queen Harßdörfferin, from Miss Susanna Eleonora Erbsin with the occasion of Christmas Fair from1628 ". The historical box can be admired at the German National Museum from Nuremberg (the largest history museum in Germany).

One of the most expected events is the parade of lanterns. Approximately 1,300 children with one handmade lantern in hand, crossing the town, from the Grand Square, where The Christmas market is organized, to the Imperial Castle.

During the fair, Nuremberg turns into an enchanting city. Besides the activities of the event, enjoyed goodies and gifts bought, the city proposes thematic exhibitions dedicated to and inspired by the celebration of Christmas.

One of the most expected and appreciated is the Christmas exhibition from the Old Town Hall. Here are exhibited collections from the Nuremberg Toy Museum, describing the charm of winter, the snow and the Christmas toys dating from the Middle Ages.

The symbol of the Nuremberg Christmas market and in the same time the most bought product from the event is Rauschgoldengel. The Ambassador of Christmas is the golden angel wich was invented to symbolize the spirit of the Nuremberg market. It is available in several sizes, the largest of them, in gold leaf is exposed at the entrance of the market area.
